Finally after Corona, the Gold Coast Hinterland will be flooded with people training for the 96 kilometre and 48 kilometre Kokoda Challenge.
As is every year, there will be a range of skill levels and motivation amongst participants who endeavor to complete this grueling course. Whilst some are extremely experienced in events such as this, many of those who participate in the Kokoda Challenge are of a novice level when it comes to understanding the physical and physiological demands that challengers go through.
There are also a myriad of injuries and First Aid incidents that have and could take place during the challenge such as:
- Dehydration
- Sprained or torn muscles
- Cuts and abrasions
- Bone fractures
- Respiratory issues
- Heart conditions and related issues
- Seizures
It is recommended that when forming teams for the Kokoda Challenge, at least one if not all of the team members, are up to date with their First Aid and CPR training.
First Aid Accident & Emergency is heavily involved in the Kokoda Challenge as our CEO Scott Whimpey, is a regular competitor and volunteer First Aid support for the yearly event. Scott is very familiar with the physical and mental demands of the course.
If you would like to know more about how to prepare for the Kokoda Challenge and for tips and tricks during the event, take a look at our Kokoda Challenge blogs for first-hand tips from Scott Whimpey.
In addition to First Aid courses on the Gold Coast, FAAE also has an extensive range of first aid kits for sale through our online store if you need to update your first aid supplies for the challenge.
