Let’s talk facts…
There is a common misconception that Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) only happens to older or unhealthy people. The sad truth is that SCA doesn’t discriminate and it can happen to anyone, anywhere, anytime.
Over 30,000 Australian’s suffer an out-of-hospital Sudden Cardiac Arrest every year and 9 out of 10 people won’t survive. The first 3 minutes in a rescue situation are crucial – every minute a patient is in cardiac arrest not receiving CPR or an AED shock, their chances of survival drop by 10%. Sadly, damage caused to the heart after 10 minutes without intervention is nearly irreversible and could ultimately result in death.
FAAE are here to support the CCF QLD community to help save lives and make defibrillators more accessible. We’ve worked with thousands of individuals, workplaces and clubs across the nation to help them make their environments heart safe.

While we recommend everyone is trained in CPR, public access defibrillators are designed for anyone to use. Once you switch the Automated External Defibrillator (AED) on, it will tell you exactly what to do via verbal and visual prompts.
This will usually begin with the defibrillator prompting you to call for help and expose the patient’s chest. It will then instruct you to apply the adhesive pads to the chest of the patient. You’ll then be prompted to ‘not touch the patient’ as the AED is analysing the heart rhythm of the patient and may deliver a shock.
Once this has happened the AED will instruct you to perform CPR. Our defibrillators will guide you through this stage of the resuscitation to help ensure you are performing the CPR correctly and at the right pace.
If you have purchased a defibrillator from First Aid Accident & Emergency, we will also provide you with an online instructional use video. We recommend you watch this along with anyone else who may need to use the device.
