Advanced First Aid Course Description

Objective of the advanced First Aid Course:

Provide advanced first aid teaches the skills and knowledge required to provide a more advanced response in the workplace, including management of an incident and other first aiders, until the arrival of medical or other assistance.

2 Day Course Summary

Day 1:

  • Provide CPR HLTAID009
  • Provide first aid HLTAID011

Day 2:

  • In depth understanding of the First Aid Code of Practice
  • Conduct a risk Assessment on the workplace
  • Conduct a first aid management plan on the workplace
  • Manage spinal injuries with soft collar and spinal board
  • Manage emergency child birth
  • Manage life threatening bleeding
  • Conduct an in depth vital sign assessment of a patient
  • Manage multiple patient injuries
  • Conduct 2 interactive role plays

Important COURSE Information

Participants must be 14 years or older. Participants under the age of 18 are required to provide a consent form completed by their legal guardian which can be accessed by clicking here.

There is a pre-requisites for this course to hold the latest Provide First Aid HLTAID011 Qualification. It is also reccomended that students have sufficient literacy, language and numeracy skills to successfully complete the course. Examples of these are: basic writing skills, ability to understand English and verbal communication, ability to count to 30, calculate basic ratios, use a timer and tell the time. The HLTAID competency standards require a level of physical ability to provide first aid and respond to an emergency situation where there may be risk to life. Students are required to:

  • Perform 2 minutes of uninterrupted CPR on an adult manikin placed on the floor
  • Perform 2 minutes of CPR on an infant manikin placed on a firm surface.
  • Manage an unconscious patient into the recovery position
  • Practically participate in first aid and medical emergency role plays

Due to the potential risk to health and safety where a nominated first aider, or worker with a duty of care, does not have the ability to perform resuscitation and/or first aid to the performance standard, it is not appropriate to issue a statement of attainment to students who are physically unable to meet the assessment requirements. FAAE are unable to make adjustments to these requirements even if the qualification is a necessary part of the learner’s employment conditions.

Participants are required to attend the 2 days of face to face training in our Gold Coast training centres or within the workplace, and successfully demonstrate competence in all assessment activities.

$350.00 per participant.

Two days of intensive, hands-on advanced first aid training, designed to equip participants with life-saving skills in real-world scenarios.

FAAE provides a range of student resources available to all participants which is accessible by clicking here. FAAE highly recommends if a participant has no previous First Aid experience that they complete pre-reading of the ABC of First Aid guide prior to attending the face to face training.

First Aid Accident & Emergency offers a hands on approach to training with progressive assessments throughout the 2 day course. Assessments undertaken include: written/oral assessments, practical and role play demonstrations and completion of a first aid management plan and incident report form and vital signs assessment of a patient.  If a student is deemed not yet competent, additional training and support is available at no further cost.

Three (3) year from date of issue.

You are required to undertake annual CPR refresher training. We will send a reminder to you a month before your certificate is due to be refreshed.

Performance tasks and practical scenarios:
  • Perform CPR on an adult manikin on the floor for 2 min, application of an AED
  • Placing an unresponsive  patient into the recovery position.
  • Complete an accurate incident report form based on a simulated first aid scenario
  • Give an accurate verbal report of a first aid scenario.
  • Perform CPR on an infant manikin on placed on a firm surface for 2 min.
  • Manage a casualty with anaphylaxis
  • Manage a casualty with asthma
  • Manage a choking casualty
  • Manage a casualty with non-life-threatening bleeding and shock
  • Manage minor wound management and cleaning.
  • Manage a casualty with a nosebleed
  • Manage a casualty with a fracture and dislocation
  • Manage a casualty with a sprain or strain
  • Manage a casualty with envenomation from a snake bite.
Theory assessment: 
  • EXPRESS Courses must complete theory assessment online consisting of multiple choice questions prior to attending the face to face session.
  • Standard courses must conduct a written assessment in the course consisting of multiple-choice questions.
