This course covers the units HLTAID012 Provide First Aid in an education and care setting, HLTAID011 Provide First aid and HLTAID009 Provide CPR. It is a blended learning option that combines pre-course online learning and assessment with a short face-to-face session of 4 hrs.
This First Aid qualification is approved for the Child Education Sector including, ACECQA and meets the requirements for First Aid, Asthma and Anaphylaxis.

This course is a face-to-face session of 8 hrs, it is required that Students cover pre-reading of the ABC First Aid guide prior to attending the face-to-face session.
This First Aid qualification is approved for the Child Education Sector including, ACECQA and meets the requirements for First Aid, Asthma and Anaphylaxis.

Course Overview
Course Overview – HLTAID012 Provide First Aid in an Education and Care Setting
This nationally recognised course includes the units:
HLTAID012 – Provide First Aid in an education and care setting
HLTAID011 – Provide First Aid
HLTAID009 – Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
Designed specifically for educators and support staff working in early childhood education, school settings, and out-of-school care programs, this course equips participants with the skills and knowledge to respond effectively to first aid situations involving infants and children. This includes managing emergencies related to asthma, anaphylaxis, and other common childhood conditions.
Training is delivered in accordance with the latest guidelines from the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) and other relevant national clinical bodies, ensuring participants receive current and evidence-based instruction aligned with industry standards.
EXPRESS & Standard Delivery Options
Express First aid Course: 4 hours plus pre-course online learning.
This course combines self-paced online learning and assessment completed prior to attending a short face-to-face session of 4 hours. The face to face delivery incorporates progressive scenario-based activities and a range of practical assessments.
The online learning and assessment is made up of videos and multiple choice questions. To
complete the online learning participants will need a desktop, laptop, tablet or phone with internet connection and headphones or speakers. Learners generally complete the pre-course online component in approximately 3 hours.
A great option if you are completing your 3-year first aid renewal.
Standard First Aid Course: 8 hours (no online learning)
This course is delivered face to face, no online learning required. Duration time is 8 hours. This course is recommended for first timers and those who do not wish to complete online learning. The range of assessments conducted in the standard course are written, practical and scenario-based assessments.
Course Fees
Education & Care First Aid Course: $125.00 per person (includes CPR)
Course fee includes all learning materials, CPR face shield key ring and A4 electronic Statement of Attainment.
You must be able to present a valid student card/concession card (senior, healthcare, pensioner card). Inability to present a valid ID on the day will result in the balance of the standard fee being payable.

Entry Requirements
Participants must be 14 years or older. Participants under the age of 18 are required to provide a consent form completed by their legal guardian which can be accessed by clicking here.
There are no pre-requisites for this course however participants need to meet the minimum physical and LLN requirements.
Physical Requirements
The HLTAID competency standards require participants to demonstrate a level of physical ability necessary to provide effective first aid in real-life emergency situations, where timely response can be critical.
As part of the assessment, students must be able to:
- Perform 2 minutes of uninterrupted CPR on an adult manikin placed on the floor
- Perform 2 minutes of uninterrupted CPR on an infant manikin placed on a firm surface
- Place an unconscious breathing person into the recovery position
- Actively participate in first aid and medical emergency role-play scenarios
Due to the potential risks involved when a designated first aider or duty-of-care worker cannot perform first aid or resuscitation to the required standard, a Statement of Attainment cannot be issued to students who are physically unable to meet these assessment requirements.
Please note that FAAE is unable to adjust or modify these practical requirements, even if the qualification is a condition of your employment.

Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) Requirements
Participants will require sufficient LLN skills to successfully complete the course. These skills/tasks are:
- Basic reading and writing skills in English
- Ability to listen and understand verbal communication in English
- Ability to count to 30, calculate basic ratios, use a timer and tell the time
- Read and answer multiple choice questions in English
- Fill in an accurate incident report form
Certification
Statement of Attainment for the units of competency:
- HLTAID012 Provide First Aid in an education and care setting
- HLTAID011 Provide first aid
- HLTAID009 Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation
In most cases a Statement of Attainment in the form of an A4 electronic pdf will be emailed
on the day of training based on the following:
- Successful completion of the required assessments
- Verification of a valid USI
- Course fees are paid in full
Where your training falls outside of normal business hours your Statement of Attainment will be emailed the next business day.
Certification Validity
Provide First Aid in an education and care setting is valid for 3 years from date of issue.
CPR is recommended to be renewed every 12 months as per the Australian Resuscitation
Council Guidelines.
Assessment Activities
Performance tasks and practical scenarios:
- Perform CPR on an adult and Child manikin on the floor for 2 min, application of an AED
- Placing an unresponsive patient into the recovery position.
- Complete an accurate incident report form based on a simulated first aid scenario
- Give an accurate verbal report of a first aid scenario.
- Perform CPR on an infant manikin on placed on a firm surface for 2 min.
- Manage a child with anaphylaxis
- Manage a child with asthma
- Manage a choking casualty
- Manage a child with non-life-threatening bleeding and shock
- Minor wound management and cleaning.
- Manage a child with a nosebleed
- Manage a child with a fracture and dislocation
- Manage a child with a sprain or strain
- Manage a child with envenomation from a snake bite.
Theory assessment:
- EXPRESS Courses must complete theory assessment online consisting of multiple choice questions prior to attending the face to face session.
- Standard courses must conduct a written assessment in the course consisting of multiple-choice questions.

Objective of First Aid Course:
The Education and Childcare First Aid Course is for teachers, educators and support staff working within an education and care setting including childcare and schools who are required to respond to a First Aid emergency, including asthmatic and anaphylactic emergencies.
